Tuesday, August 13th: Dunkin'

During senior year, I spent a lot of weekday mornings driving from my high school parking lot to the Dunkin' down the road, my friend Sylla in the passenger seat. We had second period free, and going on a little adventure made it so much easier to get through the days. Without fail, we'd see the same employee working behind the counter. We were regulars, and eventually, he started to recognize us when we walked in.

Then we graduated, and I went to college, and our Dunkin' trips became much more infrequent. But whenever I get home, I text Sylla and ask if she wants to meet up at that same Dunkin'. There are a lot of other places we can go, but it's for old time's sake.

I walked in today and the same employee that took our orders in high school walked up to the counter. He recognized me, smiled, and asked how I'm doing, asked if I'm in college, asked about my friend.

I thought, I can't believe how much time has passed, since the two of us walked into that Dunkin' on a regular basis. It feels like yesterday and forever ago, but even a stranger remembers. Lots has happened since then, in both of our lives, but Sylla and I still end up at that Dunkin' when there's time. We were just there on Sunday.
