July 6th, 2024: Lexi

I met Lexi when I was 9 years old, and I said goodbye to her before leaving for six weeks abroad, my camera roll filled with photos of her that I had taken in the weeks prior. I have been looking at those photos and thinking about how I am so lucky to have had 11 years of her love and affection. She was the sweetest girl, and everyone who met her could tell, even if they were strangers that she could not help but say hello to as we walked her down the street. Lexi loved nothing more than attention from humans, especially her family, and we loved to give her that attention. She would put her head on my shoulder and her front paw across my chest, and wow, how I will miss those hugs.

While it hurts to lose such a special little dog, I truly believe I had the best childhood dogs I ever could have asked for. Before we lost her brother, Brady, the two of them would start to bark at other dogs that walked past our fenced-in yard. We tried to get them to stop barking, to stop bothering strangers on their afternoon walks - but those barks will forever live in my memory, and I am so grateful to have heard their voices so many times.

We took Brady and Lexi on trips to Cape Cod, to Penn State, to Dewey Beach. But Lexi's favorite place was our new home, the home she got to live in for almost a year of her life. Lexi loved to be downtown. Not only would she find pizza crusts and quesadillas on the sidewalks (despite my dad's best efforts to stop her from picking them up), but she made so many friends. People would ask what kind of dog she was, and she would wag her tail as they pet her. She was such a happy girl.

So many memories of Lexi are currently rushing through my head, and there are so many more that I could include, if I only had the words right now. I will love and miss her always, and I am so grateful that she was my dog.
