Maggie Rogers released a new single this morning, a new single that I've been anticipating since she played it at her Philadelphia concert over the summer. That concert turned a July evening into one of my favorite days ever: Maggie brought together my older sister, my best friend at home, and two of my favorite people from UMass, all of us sitting under a blanket while it poured rain, and then taking photos underneath the rainbow that followed (perfect, right?). Those photos, too, are some of my favorites that exist, especially since Maggie had given us flowers, tables and tables of them at the venue's entrance for concert attendees to take, a sweet celebration for the 1 year anniversary of her sophomore album Surrender.
For months, I've been bothering the people on my Close Friends Instagram story with posts of Maggie singing "Don't Forget Me," unable to hide my eagerness, until, on my birthday, (coincidence? I think not) she finally announced the February 8th release date. And here it is! This one, for me, is more than the Spotify link, but also the memory of standing on the grass of the concert venue, singing along to her last album and hearing a piece of the next. That's why I won't stop talking about it - I got to hear it already, next to the first people I think of when I think of Maggie Rogers. And, admittedly, it it has been getting stuck of my head for months, resulting in my constant singing of only the chorus, as that was all I had memorized.
I'm listening to the song as I write this, beyond excited for the whole album, also titled Don't Forget Me, out on April 12th. The anticipation of these things keeps me going, an extra thing to look forward to through the everyday routine. Noah Kahan (with a Brandi Carlile feature) at midnight tonight. Lizzy McAlpine next week. Maggie Rogers April 12th. Taylor Swift April 19th.
